I have been a lifelong woodworker and furniture maker from an Irish Coachbuilding background so everything my forefathers built had a necessary function, and it had to work and it had to last. I like to create things that have historic accuracy and traditional, cultural meaning. Things that I feel would have been around in the past, but may not have survived into modern day society, so therefore, I like to re-create them, or channel them if that’s acceptable.
Where do you find inspiration?I have been creating for over 50 years, so although in my younger years, I would have referenced Design books a lot, I moved now by leaves on the ground, stones underwater in the river, the bark of a tree, on the recalibration of society, as we move away from simple imported styles, and back to something off local and regional substance & culture.
What would you do with $25,000?$25,000 would help me put a restroom in my workshop so that I could employ more people that are interested in learning the craft. Right now, my shop does not have a restroom, and I feel it is difficult to invite people to work with me for that reason. My goal is to start a school.
