The process of creating reminds me, even in the darkest of times there is beauty. It is my place of peace and serenity. It is love.

I find myself always returning to two types of art: acrylic paint on canvas and mixed media in the form of expansive "sketchbooks" that take years to create involving ink, pencil, paint and clipped renderings from magazines and newspapers. One form of art is a constantly evolving animal while the other is a scream or a whisper capturing a moment in time or an idea/concept. Both are equally important to me and representative of my voice as an artist.
Where do you find inspiration?Observation of humanity has always been a huge inspiration in my art, my writing and my music. At times it is the horrors of the world that compel me to lift a brush whereas other times it is the beauty I see in someone's eyes or the way light is reflecting in the early morning that gives me breath. As a generational storyteller I listen carefully to the tales told by others, especially my family. These often play into the subject matter as well, especially those told by my father.
What would you do with $25,000?The past couple of years have been incredibly hard. I lost my home and my studio last year due to financial difficulties. $25,000 would allow me the opportunity to truly rebuild my life and dive into my art once again in a way that would not otherwise be available to me. I have a series entitled "The Artist and The Critic" which I have been working on for the past few years that I could then complete having the supplies and space I needed to do so.
