My favorite type of art to create is visual and colorful, but not limited to a specific medium. Painting is the easiest way to create for me, but I regularly worked in ceramics, stained glass, wood, and metal. I like to find meaning in color, shape, form, and medium and use each of those components to create a piece that expresses an emotion or theme.
Where do you find inspiration?Lately, my inspiration has been my kids. In the past 2 years I've been blessed with 2 children who have revitalized my world. Art was easy to create in college, but the drudgery of day to day life has slowly worn the color out of my adult life. My kids have helped me to be present. They bring the light back to my life and help me to inspire them in turn to live a life full of dreams, play, wonder, and expression.
What would you do with $25,000?I'd like to say something like go on a trip or buy something fun. The only thing I truly want to buy is a house, and $25k isn't quite enough for a down payment in the north suburbs of Chicago. So instead I'd like to use the money to create a studio space for me and other artist like me fighting for studio space in our homes. I'd like to rent a warehouse and start an artist collective where we can create, store, and sell our art in a space other than our dining room tables.
