I create because the natural world stops me in my tracks and I need a language for what I feel — painting is that language.

Receive Text UpdatesAbstract landscape painting, specifically the moment when geometric structure and atmospheric force meet on a surface and something unexpected happens between them. I am drawn to the tension between the precise and the boundless, the geological and the living. Working in layers of acrylic washes and impasto oil paint on panel, I build surfaces that record their own history the way landscape records its own: slowly, accumulating evidence, always on the verge of becoming something else.
Where do you find inspiration?Everywhere the natural world stops me in my tracks. On the Jurassic Coast, filling my pockets with fossils, egg cases, and stones worn smooth by the churning surf. On morning walks through local forest preserves, stopping for seed pods and bark. In Midwestern skies before a storm breaks, in fog relenting on its own terms, in the way rain moves across a faded field with intention. Inspiration is not a destination. It is sustained attention to the exchange between elemental forces.
What would you do with $25,000?Time. Uninterrupted studio time to build the layered, accumulative surfaces my paintings require, and unhurried time in the landscape itself: watching fog relent, storms arrive, light shift across open fields. My practice depends on sustained attention to the dynamic exchange between elemental forces, and that attention cannot be rushed. Twenty-five thousand dollars would buy what makes everything else possible: the freedom to observe, to work, and let the paintings become what they need to be.
