I create not for others to see but to see myself
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
As a multidisciplinary artist, this is a hard question as every art medium gives back differently. I enjoy tattooing indigenous traditional markings because of the connection with my people, murals to change an environment and take up space. My rogue taxidermy as it helps me connect to the land, poetry for my mental health - When it comes down it it, its not a medium that I favor, its the connection and the community it creates
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in the land, the 7 generations before me, and the future 7 to come, I take from life experiences, lessons and hardships. Reclaiming what my father lost in colonization and it inspires me to heal my generational trauma through creating, showing my nieces and nephews that cycles can be broken.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use it to start up an indigenous owned and operated clothing line, This clothing line would give a percentage of proceeds to art programing for the low income neighbourhoods that do not get funding for after-school programs teamed with a socail worker. This would expose children to different mediums, help create community with a safe place to go after-school as well as help with youth mental health.
