Creating art lets me express my feelings about the world we live in and my place in it.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I create wood sculptures that communicate ideas while enhancing the material’s natural beauty. I believe the tree is already perfect in its original form, and I approach each piece with that respect in mind. My process works in harmony with the wood’s character, allowing the final sculpture to emerge as a complementary extension of its natural state.
Where do you find inspiration?I am driven by the troubling direction of our country—division, distrust, racism, and fear of the “other.” My sculptures confront these realities, often focusing on MMIW and school shootings like Sandy Hook. I struggle with the government’s inaction in the face of such violence, and I create conceptual work to express outrage and challenge viewers to reflect.
What would you do with $25,000?Build a studio where I can work. As I'm sure you are aware, Wisconsin winters are rough and I have spent the last two winters working in an unheated space or out in a tarp covered willow frame. I am 67 years old and this has gotten so old!
