I turn traditional still life on its head by creating 3 dimensional whimsical paintings that are a metaphor for life and relationships.

My favorite type of art to create is whimsical nature and still life. I love combining natural elements with imaginative, playful details to make each composition feel both familiar and magical. I usually start in a sketchbook where I am free to push the boundaries of what is real and what is fantasy. Vases tilt off tables and unseen people drink wine in lagoon type settings. My paintings are outlined in gold relief, and then I apply the paint inside the forms by dripping paint from a pipette!
Where do you find inspiration?I am a modern Florida artist inspired by light, color and natural beauty. My work is shaped by the multi-cultural world around me. From Cuban music to African art, I live in a region expanded and enriched from the immigrants who have traveled to our shores. I am grateful to be a creator with an open heart, absorbing the beauty and richness of the world around me. All of this, and more, happily reside within my work.
What would you do with $25,000?Two things. First, I'm in the unique position of being an art teacher at a art museum school. There are several programs available for disadvantage young artists; but these programs need to be expanded. I would like to help with that. Second, I would like to hire a art student, part-time, who is interested in learning my technique. This would help me to complete parts of my painting that are physically very difficult. Both would be a blessing.
