I create art to transform nostalgia and memory into tangibility. Through my imagery, I weave specificity and vagueness into one.

I specialize in oil and acrylic painting. I mainly enjoy creating portraits of my loved ones, human and animal, living and dead. Since I live far from home, I use my art as a way to stay connected to my roots, using digital images and media that I exchange with my family as source material. Additionally, I have a printmaking practice, exploring image transfer and themes of redaction and legibility/illegibility. I use gel plate printing, printed image transfer, lithography, and monoprint.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration from antique ephemeral materials, tales of personal histories, and the city of New York. My interest in history is rooted in the physical. I believe that items such as newspapers and clothing are some of the most important ways of preserving history, both visual and aural. This leads into my practice of using ancestral history in my work, finding photographs in old boxes and digging through digital archives, spiritually connecting me to my past which I channel into my art.
What would you do with $25,000?$25,000 would change my life. As a financially independent art student living in New York City, I have acquired massive student loans. This money would provide financial security for me while I finish my degree and find my way into the professional world. Every month, I struggle to pay rent and other bills, which drags my creativity down. Financial stability would allow me to devote all of my time to my dream artistic practice.
