While I have a versatile skill set in art; most notable mixing traditional and digital aspects into my painting, charcaol/graphite, and ink mediums. My favourite type of art is using pen and ink to create intricate detailing within my visuals. I especially love illustrating animals (insects and birds in particular) and exploring folkloric and mythological concepts through my subject matter.
Where do you find inspiration?Immigrating from Ireland to Canada, I’ve always had a passion for incorporating my Irish background and experience within my art. I love creating detailed storylines using visual motifs that not only explore Irish culture, but the emotions and experiences related to cultural displacement. In addition to this, I’ve always had a scientific/academic mind, leading me to consume various academic fields, interpreting and relating to these concepts within my work as well.
What would you do with $25,000?I’ve had an idea for a series of works exploring the feelings of cultural displacement in my own experience; exploring the anxieties and internalized guilt of feeling untethered from one’s culture. Thus, I would truly love to be able to travel home to Europe to explore all aspects of Celtic/Gaelic culture to incorporate into my work!
