It harmonizes me. My head is full of heat and the world is so loud and even my body aches daily, but when I make, there’s a quiet harmony.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Art is enchantingly endless, and I’ve found myself only at the edge of that infinite pool. There are so many more mediums and subjects to explore, but I’m currently loving figurative work. There’s so much crooked beauty in our bodies, and I’m fascinated by the way we reflect ourselves onto the world. All scale, construction, and expression starts with us and works its way back to us. Still, this focus may only be a present infatuation. There’s much to do.
Where do you find inspiration? Our mercurial minds are recursively reflecting the world, forming interpretive translations. Look at Picasso’s Mother and Child, and you'll remark, "Interesting! Look at this color" but see them in the street and they become noise. You see through your own eyes so frequently you forget your interpretations, but when you see another’s work, you get to see with other eyes, another’s translational memory and then again reflect them back into your own. It never ends, and neither does my inspiration.
What would you do with $25,000?I don’t compete for the prize. I compete to compete. My favorite part of my art is playing. Competition is one of the four forms of play (Piaget). Here I am, playing.
