What is your favorite type of art to create?

My main focus is neon, which I discovered my Junior year of Undergraduate studies. I was instantly enthralled by the nature that is neon. The spontaneity, the need to move quickly, learning rigorously, it is all so invigorating. Because of all of this, I am currently continuing my studies with neon. Furthermore, I am working on three-dimensionally transforming neon by taking it away from the wall and into the space.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration through artists such as Kaelyn McGowen, Mary Weatherford, Patrick Martinez, and Keith Sonnier. A key concept within my work is distortions and how we interpret those things around us. Whether it be the news, the senses of the body, or even how we feel. Everything is getting more and more distorted as each day passes, leaving us wondering what is even real anymore. Making work about this phenomena is what I strive to achieve.

What would you do with $25,000?

With $25,000, I would be able to start up my artistic practice through the world of neon and make my way into the art world. Through this, I’d be able to; buy my own set of flames [ribbon burner and hand torch], buy a bombarder to pump neon tubes, buy tanks of different gases [neon, argon, krypton to start off], buy neon tubing in different colors and in clear, and buy my own studio space. Once all is said and done, I’d be able to use the rest of the money to sustain my practice in the future.
