I love turning trash into treasure - healing the earth through upcycling, and healing myself through creativity
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite art to create is anything wearable – be it a mask, a fashion accessory, or a full costume, there’s an added layer of excitement with a piece of art that’s being worn by another person. A standalone piece of art takes on new life, feeding off the wearer. The person wearing the art dons a new sense of identity now that they’ve become part of the art themselves. And of course, wearable art means portable art – more places to go, more people to see.
Where do you find inspiration?I take direct inspiration from natural things first- plants, animals, human anatomy; then unnatural things second - man-made items, specifically paper, plastic, metal. I'm drawn to colors, textures, and silhouettes, and use the contrast of these two worlds of materials to play around in those elements.
What would you do with $25,000?I'm currently in the process of moving into a new home, with more ample space for my studio and workshop. I don't currently do art full-time, and only make it work with the free time and limited equipment I have. $25,000 would assist with my move, procuring new equipment and supplies, and help fund a larger personal project I'd love to get started on.
