I love drawing from life around me because, through close observation of my subjects, I become a better horsewoman & develop more feel.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I feel my life has chosen the subjects of my artwork. Being around cow horses every day has created my desire to interpret this beauty on paper. I'm either cleaning their pens, saddling, feeding, or petting them every day, so the time in front of my sketchbook is consumed with obsessing over them in ink. Western art is where it's at for me, and it merges with my life beautifully.
Where do you find inspiration? When I'm throwing hay, when I'm watching a cowboy and his horse chase a buffalo, tightening a cinch...my daily life is all the inspiration I need to create my art. Sometimes it’s in the sunlit outline on one of the horses' soft noses, other times it’s a particularly good ride, maybe it's the culmination of an entire day's work flooding my mind when I'm headed to bed. There's never a dull moment on a ranch, so the drawing material is never in short supply!
What would you do with $25,000?There are several improvements I can think of for this ranch with 25k; it's really difficult to narrow it down. The first thing that comes to mind is making our facility a better place to ride for ourselves and our clients.
