My work is a visual exploration of the natural landscape. For me it is a process of observation and connection to the natural world.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My work explores the East Texas landscape, focusing on the dense Pineywoods and local waterways. I alternate between acrylic painting and linoleum printmaking to capture different energies. While my acrylics offer a distinct colorful interpretation of nature, my linocuts deconstruct wildlife into abstracted, graphic forms. This change of energy allows me to translate regional subjects into expressionistic portraits of the environment.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in many places. I spend great amounts of time outdoors surrounded by nature. I also find inspiration through frequent sketchbook sessions. Frequent artistic collaboration with local artists is also paramount to the collection of ideas and production of art.
What would you do with $25,000?Being a local artist and former art educator will inspire me to donate a portion of the monies to the Museum of East Texas for scholarship As a board member of the Museum of East Texas, art education is essential to our community. I would additionally upgrade my equipment by purchasing a larger woodblock printing press and a sizable easel for larger endeavors in my own work. Education is important in my own family and I would use the rest of the monies for scholarship for a family member.
