Heather Peppard

Creating art makes me feel absolutely free. I think it’s because it is the one thing that I don’t put rules around in my life.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

Painting what I feel, with oil paints on canvas, is my favorite creative outlet. I prefer to use painting knives above all other tools to move my colors across the canvas. Painting with oil gives me the freedom I need to take my time, change my mind, add layers and depth as the creation reveals itself in the process. I guess my style of painting is now considered “intuitive painting” because I don’t set out to achieve a specific design or image. I pick the colors that speak to me in the moment.

Where do you find inspiration?

I draw most of my inspiration from my emotions. I started painting in 2015 during a very challenging time in my life. It was the most cathartic experience I ever had. It worked so well that I stopped for several years. The creative, emotional energy was satisfied. Then November 15, 2024 at 5pm my youngest sister died from breast cancer at 33. She was my glitter in the dark and the biggest supporter of my art. In my deep grief, I picked up the painting knives and have been back at it again.

What would you do with $25,000?

I haven’t thought about it. This is the first time I have ever put my art out there like this. I would likely reinvest the money into learning how to get my art into galleries or teaching art to children. Art is officially my full time hobby now, since my career in tech has abruptly ended.
