Goddesses, powerful women, spirit animals are all part of my studies showcasing their mysteries and majesty.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My focus is on spirit animals and mythical beings like goddesses. Researching and developing a composition that tells the story of human strengths and failings through the use of ancient myths brings meaning to each work. Further, I use historical figures to weave a story mirroring those myths .
Where do you find inspiration?I am a fan of Joseph Campbells writings so I lean on his work.i also find inspiration in Marcus Aurelius’ study of his days in a journaling practice. The historical figures I choose are generally those who have proven their strength of character and fortitude when faced with difficulties: Angela Davis, Audrey Hepburn, Freda Khalo, and the artist Artemisia. A health issue experienced during covid times had me collecting face masks and turning them into art. Healing!
What would you do with $25,000?The plan is to update my studio and build my inventory much of which was destroyed in my Texas studio that had no air conditioning or heat. Additionally, rolling out a new marketing plan requires funding: online presence, new media kit, and travel to visit select galleries. Workshop to share my own style and practice is part of the plan. This is in the works now with small group and/or one on one instructions and it is time for expansion to include Mentorship for young artists.
