I create paintings but I also create art with plants and the cells of plants and the natural world. I like to use inks and gouache but also pigments created from crushed rocks and soil when I can. I like to boil flowers and other natural material and use those as a way to ground the work and to feel grounded WITH the work.
Where do you find inspiration?The natural world calms the nervous system. I am 100% a biophiliac and every cell in me is connected to every cell in the natural world. Handling natural materials, creating paintbrushes out of natural elements, painting outside so the elements impact the materiality of the paper and pigment. All of this fuels the fire and nurtures the relationship between what I see with my eyes, the energy I feel in my body and the art that flows from my hands. It is all one thing. Unseverable.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use part to travel somewhere and part to fund materials and a possible trip for the youth I work with in workforce development. Taking them somewhere and exposing them to worlds they do not know has a ripple effect that is not quantifiable. Infinite potential is what lights me up the most. Everything is possible!
