A life full of change and new beginnings has given me a lot to reflect on. Art is where I get to slow down and sit with all of it.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Oil painting is my medium of choice. It lets me dive in quickly while still offering incredible depth, color, and texture. There is something about working on a large canvas that feels immediate and alive in a way that suits how I think and feel.
Where do you find inspiration? My inspiration comes from a desire to understand the past without being overwhelmed by it. A sense of unease has always been part of me, and recent war in my home land, Tigray, brought it into focus. I paint to make sense of it all, and to give myself space to grieve. To simply look closely enough to see what's really there.
What would you do with $25,000?The $25,000 would be used to secure larger work space as my work has been asking for a larger scale for a while now. A portion would also go towards professional development to learn how to expand visibility.
