I work in clay using the thrown vase as a canvas. The pieces that I find most appealing show aspects of the human condition. Many vases tell a story, are symbolic or try to show an idea in our shared mythology. Painting on a circular vase sometime requires multiple views to capture what is being conveyed. The process is primarily Raku and as such not being able to control all aspects of the firing lends a spontaneous and welcome element.
Where do you find inspiration?Attention defines what we see and perceive. I am drawn to nature and its patterns as a source which are evident in our lives externally and internally. Whether a vase shows a landscape or something symbolic, its function is to revel an aspect of beauty.
What would you do with $25,000?I have worked in the medical field as my profession and I have done pottery as a hobby. The prize would be welcome as it would allow me to concentrate on art. But mostly For me, being able to have a platform to show these pieces is what I am seeking.
