Art is the result of how a moment is perceived by an individual and pointed out to the world. It is the answer to the question that it is.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

I’m going to say what has been said before, it’s about the process. I create with nothing and everything in my mind. Mixed media is often how it is perceived but it is not always my first intent. The process is a conversation between me, my surroundings, and the work. Some have asked me “what does it mean” and I usually point at the work and say that the piece is the answer to your question. If I could say it better with words I would be a writer.

Where do you find inspiration?

I’m inspired by science and, honestly trees. When I was in third grade I had an art teacher who taught me to stop drawing what I know and draw what I see. I began to really look at shapes that were in front of me a for awhile left my concepts alone. I had no life to base a concept on. I had not really seen anything. I went from a tree that was a child’s concept to the one tree out the window, siting in the middle of the playground. I still go back to trees for inspiration all the time.

What would you do with $25,000?

I would start a community studio and buy a hand press. These are two things that I don’t really have that would allow me to produce at a much higher rate and give artists in my neighborhood a place to go and work, teach, learn from each other. A printing press would go a very long way and perhaps give everyone a chance to work on a medium that can be cost prohibitive. I feel that the combination of the two in the right location may push some people to take some chances and further their own work
