I create art that is a contemporary call to the past, celebrating classical techniques within the context of raw, modern narrativity.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
The visual art that I create is representational realism, complimented with abstract elements that invoke psychology & history. I personally enjoy creating artwork where there is both a picture & a record; an intimate scene where observation, process & story are woven together with traditional materials to craft a visual canto.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in my culture, Mesoamerican history, my life experiences; travel, some people I know & always in the work itself. By fusing all of these elements together into a visually compelling image, I gain insights into a new painting. It’s kind of like an endless cycle until a new idea is born, a new method or approach is discovered, almost as if the paintings begin to speak to one another. Love is the undercurrent beneath it all; love of people, culture & art.
What would you do with $25,000?With 25K I would invest in continuing my practice as a working artist in Chicago, & give back to my community through the production of Public Murals & Arts Education.
