Isabel Bolanos

I love to create art because it’s my way of communicating. It helps me put my words that I can’t say into a physical form.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

Photography is my favorite art to create as it can come into different forms. My go to is long exposure and cyanotypes. I combine my images into fabrics and wood. I enjoy combining processes and exploring new materials. My art process is mainly hands on as I enjoy putting labor into my work. It gives a sense of stability. My mind is never steady as I go through ideas like kids through candy.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration from new techniques and from my own struggles. I have bipolar disorder, this influences my art a lot as it’s a way for me to show people how I feel and see. Ive had a lot of hardships in my life, I struggle deeply to understand and talk about it, so I communicate with my work. My inspirations are drawn from what I view and feel. From what I’ve learn from being on my own and growing up. Inspiration comes and goes but the ones that stay, the ones that I create, those are forever

What would you do with $25,000?

If I had $25,000 I would find myself my own home and move out. Try to understand what I could do with $25,000. Find a home, pay off cars, student debt. I think I would try to figure out how to live life after college. I’d send what I can to my mom after helping me out and to do my dad. Maybe some to my siblings. But I think I’d use it to figure out my next step in my life.
