Art is what brings light to people in dark times. Almost anywhere, you can always find a pencil and paper to create something inspiring.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite type of art to create is the type that teaches me something; whether that be of who a character is, mythology, history, or more. It's one of the main reasons why I chose my career path. Art allows you to learn so many things you would have difficulty finding the time for in other professions. A single piece of artwork, no matter the medium, can tell you a story if you choose to listen. You get to experience the artist and the life they're creating in every single detail.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in simple existence and notions. The small bug crawling on your windowsill, the Rorschach-esque blots in some ceilings and walls, and the smile of the person you love. How insightful is the pondering of sensations we don't have the words yet to express? Wanting to understand all of this -- what it means to be alive -- motivates me to create this work that will, I pray, help cultivate a community where people feel less alone in their experiences.
What would you do with $25,000?As an individual with chronic illness living with my mother in a low income household and having trouble finding work due to my health, receiving $25,000 would relieve our stresses of being able to afford our bills per month. It would also allow me to help cover my mother's own health needs that aren't covered by her insurance and possibly allow her to attend school again. Financial insecurity often hinders proper recovery, so having those savings to lean on during this time would help greatly.
