Iviilik, Felicia Nayokpuk

I fell in love with my first atigit/parka around 8yrs old. I loved it so much I wore it every day, I felt the definition of Royalty.

What is your favorite type of art to create?

Atigit/Parkas! They are able withstand the strongest weather conditions. Iñupiaq/Inuit designs made with a modern contemporary style. There is nothing more beautiful than someone who embraces traditional style, we have always been here. The fur speaks for itself throughout generations of atigit makers.

Where do you find inspiration?

My family, friends, community, ancestors and other resilient people. I am also grateful to see it in people who are so happy to receive an atigit, some people cry. I can relate, I make my designs with love. Having fun creating new designs, seeing them turnout so beautiful, I want to keep some to myself. Making people fall inlove with themselves is so beautiful to see in person. Living in that moment is worth all the hard work.

What would you do with $25,000?

I want to get a few industrial sewing machines and start teaching! I want to pass down this beautiful tradition to anyone who wants to learn. Lead with love and light, I wish you the best in everything. I appreciate this opportunity and I am so grateful for your time and consideration. Quyanna/Thank You!
