Art is what helps me bring light and truth into the world and into my own life. Sometimes my art is dark but that just makes it more true

My favorite art to create is surrealist, dark imagery that makes people say “are you okay?” with genuine concern (this is my mother’s usual response to my art). I find that the stippling/pointillistic technique I use adds a ghostly quality to my art that I deeply love. I strive to create art that fits the quote “art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable”. Art shouldn’t always fill us with comfortable feelings, it’s important to be challenged emotionally and mentally.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration all across my life. Inspiration hits me when I watch the news, movies, traveling, and spending time with people. My artistic process is similar to automatic drawing, where I sketch and sketch and sketch until an idea pops into my head. These ideas can range from fully formed to just a powerful emotion of feeling that takes over my hands. So to help fuel this process, keeping my eyes open to the world and all its happiness and sadness is my greatest source of inspiration.
What would you do with $25,000?I would immediately use these funds to buy more art supplies and especially art fair materials (a tent, tables, stands, etc.). So if I were to win this $25,000, all of that money would go toward getting my art out into the world and into the lives of more people. Right now I lack that type of reach, but this program and the potential rewards would complete transform my abilities and viewership as an artist.
