Art is the most effective way I can investigate how I perceive, reflect, and shape how I internalize the world around me.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
The investigation of pattern, symmetry, and repetition has long been central to my own art practice and research. I like to think in terms of systems, thresholds, and how structure produces order and meaning. This is why I gravitate towards creating patterns, specifically the grid, and understanding the tension that occurs when patterns begin to disrupt. I'm especially interested in what happens when patterns change and interact with the human figure.
Where do you find inspiration?I’m inspired by the histories of architecture and textiles. The Pattern and Decoration movement of the 1970s is a key reference in my research, along with geometric systems found in Brutalist architecture. I’m drawn to how these fields translate structure, surface, and repetition into visual language, and how they shape both space and perception.
What would you do with $25,000?I would set up the ultimate studio with large tables, screenprinting equipment, and dyeing stations for textile works. For me, what is hindering me from working larger is primarily the lack of space. While having this much space is incredible, I would also want to share it with local artists in the community and create an open access studio for other artists like myself.
