It's a gift to see things differently. To observe life and relay those observations in creative ways. This is why I love to create art.

My favorite type of art to create is work styled after "L’affiche", vintage poster art used in advertising. Beauty is hugely important to my practice. Whether the subject itself is beautiful or beauty comes in the paints application, color, or how the lines are drawn. There is a loveliness in the technique and process. Poster art accommodates beauty and message in an overt and appealing way.
Where do you find inspiration?I am inspired by a great many things. Love, injustice, nature, greed, and humanity as a whole. Life can be complicated, ugly, and ferocious. Art offers a counter to this. I am inspired by the magic of art and it's ability to transmute some of the heaviest aspects of life. Whether it's Van Gogh's approach to mental health or Kehinde Wiley's representation of people and culture, I find the artists ability to see past the gravity to communicate what exist beyond the senses very inspiring.
What would you do with $25,000?It is no secret that being an artist is not always lucrative. Winning the title of the "People's Artist" would allow me to procure a show and the prize money would help with cost associated with the show such as framing. I work largely in two dimensional works, paintings/drawings. The money would go towards the cost of materials to continue my practice, i.e. canvas, oil paints, and large rolls of water color paper. I would also use the funds for my families general cost of living.
