My favorite art to create is “sensory expressionism” that acts as a rebellion against the flat surface While my earlier work captured the rhythmic energy of music, I have evolved into using heavy- body paint and palette knives to give a physical form to the atmosphere and “air” of a subject. Whether it’s a 36 x36 floral or an abstract piece. I use bold, unplanned gestures to translate the soul of a moment into a visceral ,three dimensional experience.
Where do you find inspiration? My inspiration comes from the intangible- the weight of the air, the vibration of light and the raw emotion of a moment. I am deeply moved by the natural world, but rather than painting a literal landscape, I am inspired by how those things feel. I look for the “soul”. Whether it is the energy of a live musical performance or the quiet power of a blooming floral, I find inspiration in the challenge of making the invisible visible through texture and movement .
What would you do with $25,000?Winning would allow me to expand the physical scale of my work and invest in the high- quality, heavy- body mediums essential to my tactile style. I would use the funds to secure a larger studio space where I could work on massive canvases that fully immerse the viewer in the “ air” I am painting. Additionally, I’d love to find ways to make art more accessible and more sensory friendly, sharing the belief that art should be a visceral, physical experience for everyone.
