It is critical to communicate my observations and feelings about the world around us in an attempt to better the world.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
My favorite type of art to create is woodblock prints or woodcuts that raise awareness of issues (environmental or socio-political) in our world and to create works that raises our collective consciousness. I feel that this is my job as an artist - to reflect the times and get people to engage.
Where do you find inspiration? One incredible source of inspiration is wildlife and the human-impact. The natural world is very important to me and what it means to share our lives with them. It is something I desperately am trying to help save via my artworks. Another couple of things that really push my creativity are socio-economic or socio-political issues that arise in my world or that have become front and center, or forgotten in the public conversation. Lastly, general whimsy & playfulness can drive my creative bug.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use the money to really develop/refine/complete my "Not invisible & not meaningless" series of woodcuts of Fresno, Ca people. The series title describes the most profound aspects of existence—things that cannot be seen, touched, or measured, yet hold the deepest significance. The goal is to capture this in portraits of people who are struggling and often deemed "invisible," but whose lives have far-reaching meaning and who have been an important part of the fabric of our community.
