My papa first taught my brother & me to sketch when we were little, and mum too. It taught me imagination isn’t a box. Beauty in acceptance.

I love painting and photography. As a kid, I did art with my mum’s makeup. I just allow myself to flow rather than choose a category of style. I’ve noticed I paint faces a lot more, mirroring what I’ve been feeling or looking for as answers. I enjoy sketching as well. It allows you to not be in a box, be messy, and still create the vision you wanted. In photography, I enjoy moments like a man taking a cigarette break and looking at the sky, or a couple leaning on each other on a bus.
Where do you find inspiration?Art feels less like inspiration and more like something I live with every day. It shows up on rough days, like a 2-hour bus ride home, when I zoom out and notice people around me, laundry bags, office laptops, newborns, and mountains. Sometimes it’s already there; I just need to see it. It comes from internal conflict or from seeking comfort in chaos. It appears when I stop resisting, stop making sense of it, and just let myself be.
What would you do with $25,000?Once I receive $25,000, I will invest in better tools to grow my art and photography, including larger canvases and a camera with a new lens so I can submit my work to competitions. Beyond my own growth, I want to use my skills to give back by supporting children and women in underdeveloped communities, offering resources, creative opportunities, and a chance to grow where access is limited.
