My work is therapy. I’m a military veteran who suffers from PTSD. Art, while aesthetically pleasing, helps me become a better person.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I am painter but not in the traditional sense. While mostly on canvas, I’ve used acrylic and oil enamel for the last few years. The current work is more experimental. The use of epoxy, found objects, and organic materials is taking a 2D piece to much more of a relief painting. In past times, I shot lots of photography and worked screen print. In the near future I will slowly weave all of these together. So, to answer your question, I am a painter.
Where do you find inspiration?Inspiration? I think it’s not something you find. It is often forced upon us. Some good, some bad. It owns us. Family, friends, community, and other loved ones are good. Wars, racism, poverty, current governments are bad. My work keeps me grounded in all of that chaos. I am also extremely fortunate to have my wife, Suzy, and my cats. My artist co-op. All Inspirational.
What would you do with $25,000?First, my studio is part of a nonprofit arts group. Ground Floor Artists Cooperative. They would get half. We are working on buying our art spaces. When it’s done, we and future artists will have affordable places to create.
