Art keeps me in the moment: the challenge, the magic, and the reveal of what hides—where the questions become the answers. And.. I love it!

My art of choice begins with photography, but rarely ends there. I’m drawn to raw, human moments — gestures, faces, fragments of life that feel unresolved. Even in planned studio shoots, I’m looking for the moment no one can plan for. I sometimes work back into my photos with mixed media, texture, and digital painting to pull out what feels hidden. I like work that challenges people emotionally, provokes thought, or even makes them ask why they’re put off.
Where do you find inspiration?Life. It’s always life that reveals the inspiration. I never really plan for it, because I can’t. It comes when it comes — sometimes with the camera, sometimes out to dinner, in a gallery, or just taking a drive. What I’ve learned is to stop when something speaks, listen to that moment, and take the challenge. No matter the style or concept, the common denominator is always authenticity.
What would you do with $25,000?I’d probably take it in one of two directions, both if possible. First, I’d create a high-concept, non-commercial studio shoot and actually pay the people involved, rather than asking for favors. Second, I’d return to Johannesburg, where I once shot in the shantytowns for World Vision. I’ve never forgotten the people there — living in conditions many Westerners would find shocking, yet carrying so much joy, passion, dignity, and life.
