My goal is to utilize historical accountability to massage the human spirit into a place of uniform purpose and unconditional love.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Public art- Murals and bronze sculptures, photography, tattoos and music. There is nothing like creating a work that lives in the public domain, in the community, where people who will never know my name can experience the work organically and viscerally. The figure speaks to our humanity — and hands especially speak a universal language devoid of color, ethnicity, or religion. When a piece of art transforms into placemaking , a landmark or meeting point, I’ve done my job.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration from life, the human experience and nature. I am also intrinsically motivated and believe that it is critical to create when uninspired. The ability to show up when there is no money or charge creates the grit needed to succeed. There is a discipline and courage that is an imperative component of the creative process and an artist’s sustainability.
What would you do with $25,000?Public art is slow work. Projects are large, timelines are long, and the gaps between commissions are real — even after a decade of full-time practice. I left a career in education ten years ago to commit fully to this work, and I have never looked back. This grant would cover studio overhead and materials to keep the practice moving forward. A portion would also fund a scholarship for emerging artists — because I know what it costs to choose this life
