I create art to make my soul happy. Lately, saving landfills, using piano mechanisms to create 3d sculpture art, playing with light & shapes
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I'm drawn to three dimensional work where light and shadow collide through color, form and movement. Art that reveals it's self slowly but draws you in deeply. My current focus is discarded pianos, objects with memory and forgotten songs. I dismantle each piano piece by piece, honoring keys, wood, wire and metal, then reassemble every element in to artwork, sculpture, tables, bars and small artifacts giving beautiful instruments a second life while it's past quietly hums in each piece.
Where do you find inspiration?Everywhere. Nature, animals, people, flowers, the rhythm of the music I'm listening to - but most deeply from my daughter, a pediatric cancer survivor who reshaped how I see beauty and resilience. I let each piece guide me. Ideas emerge from the materials themselves - twisted wire, mechanical lines, randomness of shape. They become layered textures for the three dimensional forms I create shaped by light, feeling and perspective.
What would you do with $25,000?I would donate a portion to Friends of Kids with Cancer and a portion to THON via Tri Sigma while establishing an annual art piece donation item for each organization. This would honor my pediatric cancer survivor daughter, Penn St graduate and THON dancer. Building on The Piano Projects, continue saving pianos from landfills, transforming them in to art for everyone - reaching for the ultimate goal of doing art full time and making my soul sing daily with the pianos.
