Like a mad scientist, I aim to bring my fantasy ideas to life. I like to challenge myself by experimenting with new methods and materials.

All art makes me happy. But, I am known in my circles for my unique and often elaborate holiday cards and invitations. A lot of preparation and difficulty goes into the annual design. It’s my big art project of the year, and I like to add a little bit of danger by trying to outdo myself. I like to work with papers of different sizes, cuts and folds, and textures. I enjoy layering painted art with Sharpies, whimsical and childlike drawing, and creating magical effects with metallics and sheens.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration in historical and ancestral things, fantasy and whimsy, movies and literature, weaponry, and nature. Storytelling through art also intrigues me. I am influenced by my childhood spent living in Rio de Janeiro, and moving around the USA throughout my youth. I am currently very interested in exploring my Scandinavian roots and making art that reflects its mythology.
What would you do with $25,000?I would like to plan an epic art voyage to explore my heritage, and to learn more about the art and craftsmanship of my ancestors. I would like to immerse myself in the culture and the landscapes, to understand the living conditions and climate that must influence their art. This experience will fuel me to express myself through writing, painting, and sketching. As a teacher, I would like to share what I learn with others, perhaps by offering special workshops and joining local creative groups.
