Creating jewelry is more than visual art; it allows me to embody and connect with the piece as I wear it.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Jewelry is my favorite art to create. The body is the ultimate exhibition space. Unlike art displayed on a wall, my jewelry is always visible, a constant, active statement of self. It is the art that lives with you, not just something someone might catch a glimpse of.
Where do you find inspiration? As much as I draw inspiration from my environment and nature, it primarily comes from within me. I always visualize what I want to feel or experience when wearing the piece that I plan to create. Next, I would say that color and texture are what I consider. I’m drawn to certain gemstones and the energies which they emit. I let the stones call to me when making the decision of which ones to use in my design.
What would you do with $25,000?If I were awarded the $25,000 prize, I would save the funds for the time being with the intention of using them to support my future endeavors upon my relocation to the Austin, Texas area in a year and a half, as my son will be attending college there. My plan is to construct an art gallery on my property, which would not only showcase my own artwork but also provide a platform for local artists to display their work. Additionally, I envision hosting events to foster more inspiration for my art.
