As a small business owner/artist, I’m always trying to stay relevant- my main goal in art is to preserve items before they disintegrate.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I’m a confectioner by trade and sell antiques- my favorite things to make just come to me when I have a piece. I am making a lamp out of a leg bust right now using old maps to cover it. My favorite things to create, surprise me as much as the next person, there is no way to describe it- but anything that blends using old things and keeps them from the landfill with texture and colors- a clock made out of an egg tray, full of lightweight filler to look like deviled eggs? Sure I’ll take two.
Where do you find inspiration? When customers come into the antique shop and see my neon green mannequin covered in western gear and conchas, they always tell me it reminds them of something- always something different! I listen to what brings the children and elders of my small community joy; and then I try to implement it. I drive a beetle that was painted by fifth graders and I see the entire world as a canvas. There isn’t one particular thing I draw inspiration from- just happens; and then it smells like someone arted.
What would you do with $25,000?That is so hard to say also. After the campfire disaster, I decided I’d never be in a position again where I felt I’d lost everything and left with nothing. I’ve spent years making things available for myself to create out of desperation to not be sad. If I had $25k I’d love to make another moving piece of art that I could work on and share with as many as possible… or put a deposit on a building I could do an interactive art environment similar to meow wolf. Thanks for including me.
