I upcycle second hand textiles into stylish accessories, and everyday wear. I especially love working with denim and woven material.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I work with several mediums, but my favorite is upcycling and reworking unwanted textiles. I rescue fabric that would otherwise end up in landfill, treat it, and sew it into something you can use every day. I love textiles, fabric, & texture. As humans, we already have too much clothing on this earth, it's time to start reworking it into something worth keeping.
Where do you find inspiration?I find my inspiration in nostalgia. Think of a cherry red 1966 Cadillac DeVille convertible, dice hanging on the mirror, fuzzy seat covers, speeding down the interstate faster than your soul can chase you. Maybe drinking a black coffee at your grandma's kitchen table, the room full of cigarette smoke- it's the middle of the night, no lights. The air is still. It's lonely but familiar. Or, maybe it's looking up at a full moon and convincing yourself that she sees you too.
What would you do with $25,000?I would absolutely invest in a small art studio in my city, so I can have space to work more efficiently. I am currently working out of a spare room in my home. I would use the funds to help out my local art scene, donating art supplies.
