I make art because someone has to. We are all artists, we just need to realize it.

The type of art I gravitate towards is performance art. Creating happenings from everyday living and finding ways to make meaning is my favourite outlet. Fashion and mixed materials is the art that inspires me daily. I have made a fashion show inspired by my Filipino identity where I created fashion pieces made entirely out of cleaning supplies. This is a take on Filipino labour within the cleaning industry and above all bringing what seems to be behind the scenes into the spotlight.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration through noticing. Noticing my existence, noticing how the city moves, noticing human interactions, and noticing materials in their own element or outside of it. When I am able to notice things around me, the art will slowly reveal itself and it is my responsibility to either let it exist on its own or elevate it it into something that is meaningful to me.
What would you do with $25,000?With the money given, I would use it towards my Education. I am currently a student teacher where I teach Drama and English in a high school. As a Filipino Canadian, I recognize the position I’m in and how vital it is to keep art alive, and that starts with enabling students to notice moments of art. With $25,000, it will support any further dreams I have whether that would be in my career as a teacher or as ever growing artist.
