Jimmy Alonzo

I love to make art because I think about so much surreal and psychedelic imagery and getting it out of my mind is interesting and really fun

What is your favorite type of art to create?

I love creating psychedelic, pop-surrealism, looking art. Something about that kind of art just gives me so much stimulus overload when I look at that type of imagery. I love the idea of giving the illusion of movement with everything morphing and floating and changing shape in every corner of a piece. It gives the viewer a lot to observe and point out especially if there's a lot of detail. That's something I try to do in my work but it takes a lot of planning and thinking to bring it out of me.

Where do you find inspiration?

I'm very inspired by cartoons and just animation in general. I've been watching cartoons my entire life and still do to this day. When I was in high school I had an art teacher that showed an issue of Hi-Fructose magazine and when I looked at it I was immediately hooked on! I hadn't really looked into surrealism or surreal art that much during that time so when I saw the artwork of this new generation of surrealists and neo-psychedelic artists, I new I wanted to make art just like them, so I did

What would you do with $25,000?

I will invest that money back into my art. I'm fortunate I have a lot of amazing people helping me out, whether that be my family or friends, so I'll also try to help them with that money. I will also just spend most of the money on more materials such as getting more high quality prints made of my work. I've been getting prints made by a company that's based in Florida call The Stackhouse Printery. They're incredible in the work they've done for me, so I want to continue to support them more.
