Mixed Medium: I know that is a very large field to cover but I see finished work in my style everywhere I look. Mostly I work with clay and texturing materials. I am drawn to any material that has texture and can produce a textured finish. Oritatami Nendo: folding clay is my form of creating work. I work on large sheets of wet clay, paint with slip and mark for texture, score or cut with a chip stick, fold, fire to 2200 degrees over a 3 day period. I have no limits to creating.
Where do you find inspiration? It's more than inspiration, it's being aware of your surroundings. Artists in general can walk down a street, gather energy and visual memories to keep and use days, weeks or years later. I did spend several years in the far and Middle East in the 70s so everything I was exposed to is still with me. Without travel I don't think I could create the work so easily. When a piece or installation is completed you get a high, When the client or collector has that look on their face that's inspiration
What would you do with $25,000?1. Entering my 80th year I would hire a part time assistant, I have some physical limitations. I believe in paying works a decent wage. 2. Clear out my art debt, it isn't a huge amount but a debt no less that is a constant burden. 3. Supplies for current work and treat myself to some experimental materials - an artists dream at any age. 4. Travel to openings my work is in. 5. The never ending "artist" must pay shipping and insurance.
