Narratives from my own life, and the world around me. Although sometimes I'm just inspired by a visual setting, and that is enough. But as I get older I use the figure more and more to express, what I feel is important in human life. be it political, sexual, emotional or working from historical themes.
Where do you find inspiration?I was a Navy Corpsman (69-73) and worked many years as a caregiver, often with hospice. I have seen a good deal of death and suffering, as well as love and tenderness, as a result, I'm inspired by the joy of living, of seeing ,thinking, feeling. I guess that opens my art up to just about everything.
What would you do with $25,000?I would use the $ to make a cross country trip by train (I don't drive) with a good number of stops along the way to paint street scenes and visit museums , I love old industrial cities. Also I would use the trip to promote the book Ive written and I hope to have out by this summer about my journey as an artist, ( My first book was "John Emmett Connors: Artist from Troy. SUNY Press) . I would be tempted to pay a big chunk of rent in advance, (5th floor walk-up tenement with shared bath)
