My favorite type of art to create is often high-detail realism infused with surreal and theological elements. I focus on strong contrast, eye movement, and depth utilizing both the curvature of the body as well as the imagery itself. I try to ground the subject in realism while surrealism allows it to transcend the ordinary, designed specifically for the individual wearing it.
Where do you find inspiration?I draw inspiration from a mix of classical art, theological iconography, mythology, and surrealistic imagery. I'm particularly influenced by the way older masters used light, contrast, and composition to create depth and movement such as tenebrism. I try to convey symbolism from both historical and modern as a way to build meaning into each piece. It's less about copying a source and more about combining influences, including the client, into something original.
What would you do with $25,000?Not really the goal in applying, but the funds would go a long way towards opening a full size tattoo gallery. It's been my goal for several years to transition from my humble mobile shop to a full size tattoo art gallery outside the norm of what is often viewed as standard tattoo parlor.
