It’s hard to say. I didn’t choose art, art chose me. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I feel it’s a curse. But I’m almost 40 and it’s a gift

Right now, I am oil painting. I moved to Munich Germany when I met my girlfriend while in Hydra Greece on a month long artist residency that completely changed my life. (She is from Belgrade I know Johnny has a connection with that beautiful place.). I am currently in a beautiful mentorship with Nina Lang, an incredible portrait painter who has totally changed my perspective on painting. We paint once a week in her studio and I paint every day in my 1 room tiny apartment.
Where do you find inspiration? It depends. Sometimes it’s the thing that gets me out of bed in the morning. There’s been times where I think in the morning, “is it worth getting up today?” With all of life’s persistent heaviness, and the answer has always been “yes, it’s so worth it” and I jump out of bed. I’m 38. I used to make custom furniture for all kinds of people. I ran a wood shop on W 2nd st and all of my Jewish neighbors hated it, but we developed close relationships with time. I turned lights off on Sabbath.
What would you do with $25,000?Honestly, I haven’t worked in 2 years. I can’t get my art to sell, so I have collections of it everywhere. In San Francisco, in Los Angeles, in Ohio and Illinois where my family is. And now in Europe. I would probably buy a house in northern Italy so I can finally have a place for myself and my little family. We’re expecting a little boy in September. When I moved to Munich, I wasn’t permitted a work permit, so I’m a language student. I used that opportunity to finish my Bach degree.
