It’s a Compulsion. I must, otherwise it cannot exist the way I see and feel. It’s a love / hate relationship to nurture into existence.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Mixed media on metal panels. Ink, watercolors, paints, markers, and even rust dust, anything to create the mark, gesture, texture, and color I’m looking for, layered on top of layers over the metal panel. Using tools, even coordinating scratches for the marks beneath the coloring as the base layers. It is from the metal that depth is created, made even deeper by applying layers and different media over it, giving an effect of depth with highlights of the metal.
Where do you find inspiration?Raw experience and personal relationships inspire the desire to create each piece. The words of a loved one or even a stranger, and images encountered throughout life, all leave an impression that compels. A physical memory often carries a significance that needs to be brought to life through art. When I am asked to create something, I feel moved to serve whatever the muse becomes.
What would you do with $25,000?I would put the majority toward covering medical bills for my MS (Multiple Sclerosis) treatments and toward finding a home for my wife and me. I would also really like to help people in my life who could use a meaningful leg up.
