I love the escapism that's permitted through art. The worlds I create that take us away from mundane burdens; I call it a whimsey rebellion.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Experimental visual and performance art has been my ruling house. I utilize various mediums such as film, stage, photography, costume and character design, dance, poetry and compositions to materialize my pieces. I enjoy incorporating different agencies of art to create because each limb of these methods have several veins of expression, which means I have unlimited opportunities to showcase my particular peculiarity.
Where do you find inspiration? The circus has always held a special place in my heart and is a significant influence to my imagination. My time being apart of traveling big tops and other vagabond collectives can definitely be seen through my art. I find inspiration among the oddities and unconventional, and the contrast of pure silliness against its serious counterpart. There’s an ironic enchantment in seeing a circus tent in the middle of a bleak parking lot ; I attempt to capture that feeling through my work.
What would you do with $25,000?I’d use it for my daughter, to help support and invest into something tangible for her in the future, in whatever she chooses to achieve. I’d also donate a portion to Hilo Palace Theater, on Big Island, Hawai’i. That establishment has provided 100 years of arts, entertainment, culture and education to the island and is lead by a group of folks who have also poured into my own art. I’d use what’s left to help fund my next projects: a fantasy, surrealism film and a children’s picture book.
