Art is my medicine, and stained glass saved my life. I feel honored to carry on this old and beautiful art form. I’d love to have your vote!
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
Copper foiled stained glass is my medium. This method was invented by Louis Tiffany in the late 1800’s, and has become the standard for fine detailed stained glass art. I chose this method over leaded glass because of the precision required to create small details made from glass, rather than painting after the panel is complete.
Where do you find inspiration?I find inspiration virtually everywhere, and challenge myself to create unorthodox stained glass pieces outside the norms of the copper foil process. I gravitate towards psychedelia, with specific interest in Grateful Dead iconography and motifs. I’m also constantly inspired by the designs in art glass, and love creating pieces using the patterns of the glass as a springboard. The possibilities are virtually endless.
What would you do with $25,000?I wish I was in a place where I can use the $25k to vacation somewhere exotic, or buy a new car, but as a small stained glass shop owner, I will reinvest this money into our business. While I still do occasional commissions, my main focus is teaching folks this wonderful art medium at the most reasonable cost possible. The prize would be well spent on supplies that make this possible.
