With hands through the eyes there is no greater realm or universe than this, to perform invention. Once I start, God jumps in and helps.Ha.

Since childhood, I drew portraits of family and friends. Bill Godfrey was the best art teacher a young artist could have. His love for expression kept my high school years alive with figurative advancement. He told me to apply to Yale. While there, some teachers were excited about abstract works, but shortly into exploration, I understood my life is in showing people that I see them, see everything about them. I work quickly because poses are all to brief, but if given just enough time, I get it
Where do you find inspiration? My favorite classes at Yale were live nude studio sessions. Bill Bailey’s incredible discussions about the endeavor to depict the figure and head still get me excited to start- Love to get a live sitting with someone: It is the most difficult thing to do- lots of pressure. Sometimes my subject gets severely discouraged if they see a phase in which it seems to have failed, and I must sweat through her tears, because I want to show beauty beyond what a camera can find. God takes over. I hang on.
What would you do with $25,000?I haven’t had a studio in some years. There are a few buildings with great spaces- one with exceptionally inspiring people- I would grab all the materials and frames from storage and get on with the greatest work of all time. I turned 69 on Monday, and I’ll consider this a gift from God to serve my community with my highest mastery. The best space is 1,250/ month- once there I will set up to invite artists to work from love models and discuss, finish and show at my friend’s new gallery in May .
