I believe it is important for artists to say something about the times we live in. A visual document for the future.
You decide who will appear in Artforum Magazine, take home $25,000, and display their work at The Art of Elysium's Salon!
I work in a variety of mediums. Painting, sculpture, ceramics, music, and site specific pieces. I find that have multiple skills sets allows me to escape one medium when I am having challenges and jump into another world. Always something to think about. The creative process never stops. I suppose painting is my home base.
Where do you find inspiration? My paintings are inspired by the times we live in. Social, political, and environmental subjects abound daily and I believe it is important for all artists and creatives to create and leave behind visual documents of of the changing world around us. Historically artists and writers have been at the forefront of social and political change. In today's volatile world, visual documentation will serve as a record of these times.
What would you do with $25,000?Two things. First it would allow me to continue to create work that for the most part resides outside the commercial market place. Secondly, I have always been a big believer in "sharing the wealth" with other creatives. Would love to use a portion of these funds to help support other artists creative endeavors by creating a small grant program for projects that otherwise would never happen.
