My favorite type of art is that which comes from the artist's heart. To me, the medium does not matter much, but it is important that the work I make is created from my heart, that it is honest and transparent, and that it speaks to the viewer. Through my artwork, I hope to foster an interaction between my piece and the viewer, for both are equally important to me: the artist's expression and the viewer's interaction and experience with the work of art.
Where do you find inspiration?Currently, it is crucial to me that the materials I select be ones that trigger memories of my past. The acts of making, cutting, twisting, tearing, wrapping, heating, burning, and/ or banging provide me with a sense of healing and acceptance: These labor intensive acts that could be associated with violence or even torture have allowed many of those brief past memories, which had faded away, to awaken.
What would you do with $25,000?If I won the $25,000, I would use it to buy the equipment and technology I need to improve my video performances—specifically, better video cameras and a couple of drones—and, above all, to upgrade my small art studio.
